I’ve always been a fan of child interviews. I love their candor and the way that it captures a particular version of their quickly changing selves.
It’s nice whenever daycares and family members help little ones to show appreciation on Mother’s Day. But if you’re the one who is with your child day in and out, I think it’s totally appropriate to help them express their love and appreciation, even if it’s for you! I worked on this card with Graham to give to me on Mother’s Day and I feel no shame in that whatsoever.
Primarily, this interview/card combination serves as a sentimental keepsake for a mother on Mother’s Day. But it’s also an intentional reflection of the relationship between a mother and child and the things that make their relationship special. Some of the questions invite the child to reflect on the particular things that make them feel loved and the ways that they express love to others. And so that makes this useful for nurturing social growth as well.
I’ll share the questions below if you choose to use them just for discussion over the dinner table on Mother’s Day or in a different way. But there is also a free printable with the interview questions and a card for them to decorate.

Tip: If you’re doing this activity with toddlers, I recommend starting early and doing a question here or there instead of expecting them to answer all the questions in one sitting.
