This is an ever growing place for all things letter G. We used the letter G as inspiration in instances that made sense, but if there wasn’t something that fit naturally, we simply substituted it with something else we wanted to learn about. If you’d like to read an overview of the structure and creation of this home preschool series you can find that here. This post will be jumping right into our resources for this week.
BOOK LIST
- Curious George by Margaret and H.A. Rey^ (This edition comes with access to audio of John Krasinksi reading it, which feels like a worthwhile investment. But we also have these three collections and love them: Curious George Stories to Share, The New Adventures of Curious George, and A Treasury of Curious George Stories.)
- The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson^
- Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown^
- Guitar Genius by Kim Tomsic
- The Curious Garden by Peter Brown
- Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae^
- We Are the Gardeners by Joanna Gaines
- Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site by Sherri Duskey Rinker^
- Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss
- Grandpa Green by Lane Smith
- Gold by Jed Alexander
- Grand Canyon by Jason Chin
(I’ve only listed the books that we’ve read and enjoyed. But within each list you might also notice this arrow ^. I’ve placed that beside the ones that I think make a great addition to a home children’s library based on their exceptional rereadability or reference material.)
ART STUDY
- Georges Seurat: We looked at some of Georges Seurat’s art and noted the style of pointillism. We attempted our own pointillism art using Q-tips and paint, but this particular style was often abandoned in favor of more traditional painting style. We attempted both a freestyle sort of piece and then painting an extra coloring sheet we had of sunflowers. We tried a few tools for the process like erasers and the pointed end of the brush. In the end, pointillism did not interest him in the least and sometimes this is the way of process art.
ART PROJECTS
- “G is for Grass” Worksheet (Free download for that below.)- If you’re the brave sort you could also opt to do glitter. I am not that brave. We used this as an opportunity to practice some scissor skills. Graham cut the grass to then glue onto our page.
- Glue Collages: Practice gluing by making collages using recycled items, tissue paper, or nature.
- Make Your Own Board Game: Using an old board game paint over top and then draw or cut and paste your own board game.
- Make Greeting Cards
- Georges Seurat Inspired Pointillism Art with Q-Tips
LANGUAGE + LITERACY
- Song: The Green Grass Grows All Around
- Poem: Goodnight Poem by Laura Richards
- Poem: In the Days of Goldenrod by L.M. Montgomery
MATHEMATICS + BASIC SKILLS
- Number Focus: 9 + 10— Beyond the snacks and toys/household items you already own, nature is a great place to explore for counting items. We used sprigs of lavender this week. And ended up also doing some size sorting from shortest to tallest. Sticks, acorns, and rocks would all be suitable for this as well.
- Putting on Socks + Shoes— Simply promoting greater independence in this task.
- Emotions: Sadness— Carve out space over one snack/meal to chat about sadness with your child. Simply talking about it can help to normalize that emotion and make it feel more safe. (What does sadness look like? What does it feel like? When do you feel sad? What do you do when you’re sad?) Be sure to share your answers with them as well! I’ve learned a lot about my emotions by exploring them honestly with my child.
- Name Handwriting Practice—The boys began pointing out shapes and almost letters that they were making when drawing and so we started to practice writing their names one time each day. I created the most simple name tracing page in Canva for each of them. They’ve already started improving and have been so proud of their progress.
SPIRITUAL GROWTH + SCRIPTURE STUDY
- Attributes of God— Talk about some favorite and/or foundational attributes of God together. What you’ve found to be true in your own relationship and what the Bible says about God. (Examples: God is life. God is love. God is peace. God is gracious. God is creative.)
- “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, His love endures forever.”—PSALM 118:1
WORDS TO INSPIRE CREATIVITY + PLAY
I share this list because I believe in using the resources that you have. Some preschool plans have made me feel like I need to buy very specific resources, which often isn’t necessary. There are so many perfect materials that already exist in our homes for preschool play and creativity and learning. These words are to serve as inspiration for your own art projects or imaginative play.
- Grapes
- Games
- Garden

Below is a one sheet of the activities we used for the week. I prefer the option of printing things out for the week and having them all in one place (worksheets, poems, plans, etc.). You’ll also find the “G” is for Grass page we did, a blank letter G to fill in if you’d prefer something different, and a large tracing page that can be used with playdough, dry erase markers, or other loose parts. Below that you’ll find a simple printout of the poems for the week. The memory verse card can be found in the free A-Z Memory Verse Collection.
