This is an ever growing place for all things letter C. We used the letter C as inspiration in instances that made sense, but if there wasn’t something that fit naturally or if something else was more fitting with the seasons we simply substituted it with something else we wanted to learn about. If you’d like to read an overview of the structure and creation of this home preschool series you can find that here. This post will be jumping right into our resources for this week.

- Curious George by Margaret and H.A. Rey^ (This edition comes with access to audio of John Krasinksi reading it, which feels like a worthwhile investment. But we also have these three collections and love them: Curious George Stories to Share, The New Adventures of Curious George, and A Treasury of Curious George Stories.)
- Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes
- Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina
- The Story Orchestra: Carnival of the Animals by Katy Flint^
- The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss + Crockett Johnson
- Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett^
(I’ve only listed the books that we’ve read and enjoyed. But within each list you might also notice this arrow ^. I’ve placed that beside the ones that I think make a great addition to a home children’s library based on their exceptional rereadability or reference material.)
ART STUDY
- Aaron Copland: We listened to some of his compositions while we did our stamping. We talked about our usual questions: What did they like/not like? How did the pieces make them feel? What instruments did they hear?
- Claude Debussy
- Claude Monet
- Eric Carle
ART PROJECTS
- “C is for Cardboard” Worksheet (Free download for that below.)
- Carrot/Cucumber Stamping: Cut off the end of a carrot or cucumber. Dip that in paint and stamp onto the paper. The results are similar to dot stampers, but the novelty of the stamping tools made this more exciting for the boys. (We’ve used both thick watercolors for this as well as fingerpaints.)
- Drawing with Crayons
- Melting Crayons into Letter Molds or Other Shapes
- Make Greeting Cards
- Paint Color Sorting Pages
- Bake Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Bake Carrot Cake
LANGUAGE + LITERACY
- Catch a Falling Star
- Poem: The Castle-Builder by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
- Poem: Children by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
- Poem: I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by William Wordsworth
MATHEMATICS + BASIC SKILLS
- Number Focus 1 + 2: I created some simple counting cards to practice number recognition and counting at snack times. We began playing “pick a card” and now the boys request it. We sit down with the two cards for the week and they pick a card. I ask what number they picked, then we count out that many cucumbers/blueberries/Cheerios/Goldfish/etc. Repeat, repeat, repeat.
- Practice in “My Name” Book
SPIRITUAL GROWTH + SCRIPTURE STUDY
- God creates. What are some things you are glad God created?
- “Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you.” —PSALM 55:22

Below is a one sheet of the activities we used for the week. I prefer the option of printing things out for the week and having them all in one place (worksheets, poems, plans, etc.). You’ll also find the “C” is for Cardboard page that we did, a blank letter C to fill in if you’d prefer something different, and a large tracing page that can be used with playdough, dry erase markers, or other loose parts. Next, you’ll find a simple printout of the poems for the week. There’s a page for the weekly Bible verses. And lastly, the counting cards I referred to in the mathematics section for practicing numbers 1 and 2.
