Genesis 1:31 | Memory Verse Collection

This month we’ve been exploring the creation story and delighting in the fact that God is one who creates good things. We slowly unpacked the story of creation: from chaos, order; from nothing, life; from darkness, light.

I crave rhythms that remind me to speak truth into Graham’s life because I know how prone I am to forgetfulness. But I am also leaning into impromptu moments of speaking truth over him as it comes to mind. Today before nap time was an instance, “Did you know God loves you? The same God who made the stars and the moon and the flowers made you and calls you good. I love that. I love you.” He gently nods the whole way through.

Though God is mysterious and beyond comprehension, memorizing this truth and retelling this story of creation has been reminding us of God’s nature in two ways:

  1. God creates and gives life.
  2. God is good, creates goodness, and revels in goodness.

And because we have been made in the image of God we too are called to creativity, to be life givers and to seek the good. It’s a beautiful reality that as we seek after truth and encounter who God is, we discover a great deal about our own identity as well.

This month, may we search for the good. May we celebrate it, share it, embody it, speak it, seek it, delight in it. May we look over all God has made and be given eyes that see as God sees. And may we take comfort in the fact that God has called us good.
